In an empowering move to bolster girls’ safety and confidence, the Amar Ujala Foundation organized a pivotal self-defense workshop at Baburam Rukmani Devi Inter College located in Kanpur Dehat. This event, part of the foundation’s Aparajita initiative, aimed to teach young girls effective defense mechanisms against potential threats.
The training was conducted amidst rising concerns over the safety of women and girls in public spaces. Addressing the attendees, the trainers emphasized, “Don’t be afraid of miscreants; face them boldly. Daughters have equal rights in society, just like sons.” They highlighted the stringent laws in place to safeguard women and urged the students to actively seek police assistance in emergencies through the helpline numbers.
Throughout the session, the trainers equipped the girls with skills to use everyday items such as pens, mobile phones, and scarves as defensive tools during crises. They also demonstrated techniques to ward off attacks with sticks, punches, and kicks, ensuring that the students could practice these moves effectively with their peers.
By the end of the workshop, 100 girl students had learned not only the physical tactics necessary for self-defense but also the critical mindset of vigilance and empowerment. This initiative reflects Amar Ujala Foundation’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the safety and dignity of women through education and skill development in self-defense.
